Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book a service?

Please navigate to the contact page and send a message to schedule a free 15-minute consultation call. If you choose to proceed with therapy, I will send you a link to a client portal where you can complete paperwork and schedule all appointments.

Do you accept insurance?

I am considered an out-of-network provider for most PPO insurance plans. If you have PPO insurance you may be eligible for partial reimbursement for your therapy sessions.

Please check with your insurance company to verify benefits. I do not bill insurance directly but will happily provide you with a superbill upon request so that you may file your own claim.

My NPI provider number is 1194570689. The CPT codes that I typically use for billing are 90791, 90834 and 90837.

What questions should I ask my insurance company to determine my out of network coverage?

Some questions to ask:

Q: Will you reimburse for mental health service providers that are out of network?

Q: Do I have a deductible to meet before you will reimburse?

Q: Have I met any portion of that deductible yet?

Q: What is the reimbursement rate?

Once you verify your benefits, you will still be responsible for paying out of pocket for each appointment. Once a month, I can email you a superbill (insurance lingo for receipt), which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement using out of network benefits.

Are your sessions in person or virtual?

All therapy sessions are conducted via a HIPAA secured telehealth platform. I am licensed as a clinical social worker in California and can only see clients who reside in California.

Do you provide traditional, ongoing talk therapy as well?

I consider my services to be an adjunct to traditional talk therapy or a stand alone service. Some clients come to me after being referred by their therapist to process trauma that may be keeping them stuck. This can lead to therapeutic breakthroughs once our work is complete. I can assist you in referring to another therapist once our trauma work is completed if you desire. My work with clients is focused on identifying and clearing past traumas and blocks that are impacting the client’s current functioning.

How many EMDR sessions does it take to process trauma?

The number of EMDR sessions needed to process trauma varies based on the individual, the complexity of the trauma, and the client's goals. However, research indicates that:

  • Single-event traumas (e.g., car accident, natural disaster) can often be processed within 3-6 sessions, including preparation.

  • Complex or chronic trauma (e.g., childhood abuse, neglect, or multiple traumatic events) typically requires a longer course of treatment, ranging from 12-20 sessions or more, depending on the severity and how deeply the trauma is embedded.

The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) emphasizes that effective EMDR therapy is not limited to trauma processing but also includes phases for history-taking, preparation, and reevaluation, which can extend the number of sessions.

How many Brainspotting sessions does it take to process trauma?

Similar to EMDR, the number of Brainspotting sessions required to process trauma depends on the individual’s needs and the complexity of their trauma. Generally:

  • Single-event traumas can often be resolved within 1-3 sessions, as Brainspotting is known for its ability to access and process deep brain-based trauma quickly.

  • Complex trauma or ongoing issues might take 8-15 sessions or more, particularly when the trauma has created entrenched emotional or physiological patterns.

Brainspotting is a highly flexible and client-centered modality, allowing the therapist to tailor the approach to the client’s unique needs.

Can EMDR and Brainspotting be used together?

Yes, many therapists, including myself, integrate EMDR and Brainspotting in treatment. While both are effective as standalone therapies, they work synergistically to address trauma on different levels:

  • EMDR uses structured protocols to process traumatic memories systematically.

  • Brainspotting provides a more open, somatic approach to access and release trauma stored in the body and deeper areas of the brain.

By combining these modalities, we can adapt the treatment to your unique processing style and healing needs.
